What is sex? As a bloke, stereotypically we are meant to be thinking of sex almost constantly, so it should perhaps be no surprise that I was thinking about it as I was walking home this evening.
So what was I thinking? I observed that there are probably three major variants of sex - for the purposes of this post, I'll call them fucking, making babies, and making love.
In this context, I'll define fucking as being sex that is done for self-gratification, or other selfish reasons such as power, manipulation or control or money. To mr this feels like it is motivated by selfish desires without consideration for or attachment to the other person. It is about taking.
Making babies is obvious - it is about having sex with the pure focus on breeding - a view that lots of religions preach as the only valid form of sex - a doctrine that has probably been responsible for much psychological damage (at least that is my opinion).
Making love is about sex that is intimate and caring and defined by respect - it is about sex that strengthens relationships and brings couples to a closer together in love - it defined by an attitude of giving and sharing rather than taking.
Of course, sex may be some combination of all of these, but this is how superficially I see sex as being defined.
So what is the point of this? The point is that I want to make love with Nina, but I suspect that for her sex is all about fucking.
